To become the language centre of choice in Pakistan.



To provide world class language learning opportunities and enriching environment to Ziauddin University students and the wider community for academic success and improved life chances; To contribute to the development of the English language teaching profession, and professionals, in Pakistan and the region.



  1. Provide high quality programs for learners with specific needs and goals at all levels, including the corporate sector.
  2. Provide an enriching and nurturing environment to learners to achieve their full potential
  3. Provide high quality learning and practice opportunities for enhancing English language skills for international examinations such as IELTS, SAT and GRE.
  4. Undertake high quality teaching, teacher training and cutting edge research on language teaching and learning.
  5. Develop a network of communication with ZU faculty offering language courses in other ZU faculties/colleges to assist them in curriculum and instructional planning and assessment.
  6. Support the ZU student community in developing their English language and critical thinking skills for academic study, and for improving their future life chances beyond the University.


Governance and Structure

The Language Centre is part of the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences. The Centre is led by a Director and runs independently under the supervision of the Dean. The Director manages the Centre’s day-to-day operations as well as its finances and staffing.

The Centre has an Advisory Board with internal members from each University faculty served by the Centre and two external members representing the academia at large. The Advisory Board meets once each term.




English for Academic Purposes (EAP):

Who’s this for?

If you are a current student at ZU or any other higher education institution, you have this unique opportunity to join one or more courses according to your identified needs and specific goals for academic study and for life beyond the university.

Exam preparation courses (IELTS, SAT, GRE):

4 weeks intensive or 50 hours spread over a period of one semester

Who’s this for?

All students at ZU or at other educational institutions who are looking for high quality learning opportunities to improve their proficiency in language for international exams.

Specially Designed Courses for the Corporate Sector:

3-4 hour workshops, 10-15 hour short courses, and up to 50 hours longer courses- as per need, for example, Writing Emails and Memos, and Report Writing.

Who’s this for?

For various levels of staff in the corporate sector.

English for Specific Purposes (ESP):

Who’s this for?

These courses will be tailor-made for teachers, students and coordinators etc. based on needs analysis, and will focus on identified areas for improvements, for example, English for Medical Professionals.

English for Employees Program

Who’s this for?

These workshops and courses are tailor-made for ZU and outside ZU employees at the Junior or Middle Manager level, who wish to enhance their service English skills and learn effective strategies to promote the use of the target language in their work context.


These are 4 hour workshops offered on Saturdays only.

Employers/employees can choose any of the courses offered as per need.

These are longer courses (up to 50 hours) with classes held on Saturdays only (4 hours per week.

In addition, the Centre offers support services to all departments/colleges at Ziauddin University for improved teaching-learning of English. This includes needs analysis, curriculum development and review, selection of learning materials and resources, developing assessment procedures and tools, monitoring and evaluation of programs and faculty including faculty appraisal, recruitment of faculty, and faculty development.

Please note:

  1. An application processing / Placement Test fee of Rs 1,000 will be charged at the time of initial registration.
  2. No candidate will be admitted without taking the Placement Test.
  3. Class levels will be assigned on the basis of Placement Test scores. The decision of the management will be final in this regard.
  4. A certificate will be issued on completing the requirements for each course/workshop.
  5. 80% attendance is required to sit for the final exam for certification purposes.
  6. A minimum score of 60% is needed to become eligible for certification for any course.
